THE ELAISH – HONDA CB400 SF ’98

Written by Donny Ariyanto

If you happen to be lucky enough to own multi motorcycles and ride everyday then the chances are you have a more “sensible” bike, maybe even a stock modern machine, to get you around on weekdays. But when you run a custom bike shop even your everyday ride is going to be something different, you might use it for the commute to work or sunday morning ride cafe to cafe, but it’s still going to be something a little special. Like one of our customer, he wanted his bike that would survive every fad and trend and still be able to ride it in his age, he know what his love to be something different with his style. With his challenge we did more than up for our new build used a 1998 Honda CB400 SF as a donor bike. And please welcome THE ELAISH!

Starting with the frame, we removed an original sub frame and make way for flat and line with a handmade custom gas version we designed and built, scaled with a single seater in mind. Then converted the original rear shock to a 360 mm Progressive rear shock. Up front we still used an original 41 mm telescopic front end. To really improve handling and the outdated original wheels have been replaced with TK Japan Wheels 18X3.00 and 18X5.00 Inch and wrapped in Metzeler Tires 130/70-18 & 180/60-18 for front and rear. To update the bikes braking performance we then mounted Brembo twin calipers at the front and a single Nissin caliper at the rear. Here comes the bodywork, a gas tank, side cover, hornet tail and tiny fender with a minimalist style made from 1.2 mm galvanized material. After the bodywork was done, Komet Studio made his move! We choose a cyralic gold combined with classic white from Sikkens and decorated with a black line. Completing the last project, clip on handlebar was selected to provide ‘the sensation of riding’. The 7 inch DRL Aftermarket headlight was attached at the front. Custom 4 in 2 exhaust system was selected to drag up the modern classic theme with a strong sound.

For our customer it’s about staying true to his classic style, keeping it simple and creating a bike that something different with others. For us? We really enjoyed to build this bike.
